From Kitchen Experiments to Cutting-Edge Chemistry: Meet H2D’s Lead Chemist

May 16, 2025

At H2D Global, we believe that true innovation is powered by people who bring not just technical mastery, but passion and creativity to their craft. One such person is Christian Goeller, our Lead Chemist, whose journey from a teenager experimenting in the kitchen to a recognized expert in polyurethane formulation mirrors the spirit of curiosity and excellence that defines H2D.

Christian’s story begins not in a laboratory, but at home — assembling ingredients, trying new combinations, and refining his skills as an avid home cook. “Formulation has always been part of my life,” Christian shares. “Cooking and chemistry are both about combining the right ingredients in the right way to create something entirely new.”

This passion naturally evolved into a distinguished career in applied chemistry. After completing a DUT and Master’s degree in Chemistry in Strasbourg, Christian entered the professional world determined to stay close to real-world applications. Over the decades, he built a reputation as a trusted specialist in polyurethane systems, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers, working with major industrial players across Europe and Asia.

But it’s Christian’s approach; practical, hands-on, and deeply attuned to client challenges that truly sets him apart. His experience spans everything from developing new industrial adhesives to setting up production lines from scratch, always with the same philosophy: solutions must not only work in the lab but thrive in the real world.

Today, at H2D, Christian leads pioneering research to develop low-impact, biosourced polyurethane materials, combining scientific rigor with a real sense of mission. “The chemical industry must prepare for a future beyond fossil fuels,” he emphasizes. “Companies won’t transition overnight, but we need to lay the groundwork now, and it starts with smart, scalable innovations.

Christian is currently spearheading two key projects: developing new-generation polyols sourced from renewable biomass, and exploring groundbreaking biosourced isocyanates. These initiatives, born from collaborations with international partners and leading French research centers like the CNRS, aim to create sustainable alternatives to traditional petroleum-based components without compromising industrial performance.

Beyond the technical challenge, Christian sees a broader opportunity: rebuilding the bridge between public research and industry. “In France and Europe, we have extraordinary scientific capabilities,” he explains. “What’s often missing is the translation into industrial reality. H2D is stepping into that gap, and I’m proud to be part of it.”

Christian’s deep experience, technical insight, and relentless curiosity make him a vital force behind H2D’s vision: empowering chemical companies to innovate sustainably, pragmatically, and profitably.

When asked what excites him most about the road ahead, his answer is simple and compelling: “It’s the possibility to make a real difference, to create industrial solutions that respect both the environment and economic realities. And to do it with a team that shares the same drive.

At H2D, we’re proud to have Christian leading the way, not just as a chemist, but as a partner to every company ready to embrace a smarter, more sustainable future.
